NORTH DAKOTA

The Lewis and Clark expedition spent more time in North Dakota than any other state.

The first statehouse was built during the territorial period (1883-4), and the second was built after the first burned down in 1930.

North Dakota became the 39th state in 1889.

The Nonpartisan League (NPL) was formed in 1915 to help small farmers.

Oil was discovered near Tioga in 1951.

Lake Sakakawea was formed in 1960 when the Garrison Dam was completed.
