GETTYSBURG

A few facts about the Battle of Gettysburg:

The Battle of Gettysburg is often called the turning point of the Civil War. It was the bloodiest battle of the war and ended the Confederacy's last major invasion of the North.

Pickett's Charge was a futile assault on a Union position that marked the climax of the battle. The charge's failure forced General Lee to retreat.

President Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on November 19, 1863. The speech was inspired by the battle.

After the battle, the Confederate wagon train of wounded soldiers stretched 17 miles long. The convoy faced difficulties, including floodwaters and attacks from Union cavalry.

The battlefield was a chaotic mess after the battle, with bodies strewn for miles.

The Union army had 360 cannons, while the Confederate army had 270 cannons.

The armies were organized into brigades, divisions, and corps.
